We are currently looking for a Full-Time Produce Staff (25-35 hours/week)

While previous produce experience is an asset, those willing to learn are also encouraged to apply.

Produce staff maintain the produce section, place and receive orders and provide customer service.

Today we received and put out for display our first shipment of organic garden seeds from Stellar Seeds. We have been offering Stellar Seeds for over 5 years now since a local seed company stopped producing seeds for us to sell. I like them.

We will be having more seeds from other suppliers coming in the next few weeks.

So if you want to get organic garden seeds in your hand so that you can start dreaming the garden dream step on down to our store and get some.

Not only did I stop into Planet Organic to do some price comparisons on December 19th but I also checked out Save-On Foods (Calgary Trail and 78th Avenue).

I have posted the list of the products I recorded. The price difference for the items I recorded came out to a 14% price difference. Again showing that Earth’s General Store has some very good prices on Organic food and Natural Health products.

When I started doing the Activist Agenda I used to do it up in Microsoft Word and cut and paste it into an email body and send it out to a list of people that expressed interest in receiving it. Then a few issue developed – Yahoo and other email providers started to block the sent messages.

So I paid for a service to handle the mailing of the AA. This worked out to over $40 a month and would still take about 10 hours to compile.

My friend Conrad Nobert came to the rescue and developed the present web based AA. This saved a lot of time and allowed more people to post their events directly to the AA.

The other day a certain aspect of my email for the store got blocked – anything with my phone number in it. It seems that Telus and/or someone out there that didn’t like the AA marked it as spam and a service flagged us. It was partly our fault because we have not cleaned up the email list for a very long time and there were several obsolete email addresses on our list.

This morning I went out to the CTV studios and did a short blurb on composting. Their current book club book is about a young woman/girl (unsure about the age) who inherits a farm in BC and goes to live there. From my understanding the young woman is very green (both ways – has lots of environmentally friendly habits and is new to the world of farming/growing things).

One of the things she learns about is composting to make her soil healthier and nutritious for her plants. CTV called on me to talk about this aspect of the book.

I appreciate that you are a customer of Earth’s General Store or at least aware of our store.

I would REALLY appreciate it if you would help spread the name of our store through your social groups – friends, family, co-workers and your social media circles – and encourage people to visit the store.

Let your circle know why the store is relevant to you.  Is it because we are local, we live what we ‘preach’, we are independent, we support many of aspects of the activist community that do not normally get support, we are knowledgeable, we have a good selection of organic products, we have on average the lowest prices for organic foods in Edmonton, that we have great staff, or whatever you think makes us unique or makes us relevant for you?

So please help us encourage more people to check us out. There have been several stories in the media about organic produce having pesticide residual on them. A lot of time they don’t mention that this is not being cause on purpose but by the general poisoning of our environment by the chemical based agricultural system. Also the residual amount is less than 10% of what is found on conventional. I will take that reduction.

Some people that choose organic don’t only do it for their own well being but that they do not wish to see the planet being exposed to more toxic load than what it is presently trying to deal with. It also reduces the amount of pesticides that work in the field are exposed to. I like that!

The Certified Organic process has many protocols. If a product does not follow the protocol they cannot be considered organic.
